ClientEarth granted oral hearing to proceed with derivatives claim against Shell

ClientEarth has been granted an oral hearing to seek permission to proceed with its derivative action claim against Shell, the firm announced in a statement released today.

NRF called to Qualcomm’s £480m class action defence as Quinn’s London team drops out

Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) has been called up to a new-look legal team for Qualcomm as it defends itself from a class action brought by UK consumer charity Which?.

The dispute hinges on a Which? claim that wireless technology company Qualcomm breached competition law, and in doing so inflated the royalties paid by smartphone manufacturers for Qualcomm’s technology, which in turn led to increased prices for customers. Dechert condemns former partner Gerrard after High Court rules the firm breached ENRC client duty

Dechert has strongly condemned retired white-collar partner Neil Gerrard after the High Court today (16 May) ruled that he and the firm itself breached their duty of care to mining giant and client ENRC.

The £70m claim brought in 2019 was heard by the High Court in an 11-week trial between May and September 2021. It centered around allegations that Dechert – which represented ENRC between 2011 and 2013 – colluded with the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) during an investigation into the company.  Gerrard led on the matter for Dechert, with ENRC specifically alleging he passed on confidential information to the fraud watchdog and the press.
