When you register to use the Website we ask you to provide your name and email address and certain other details. We (or our agents or subcontractors) may check some of the information that you provide to us against third party databases to confirm that it is accurate.
We gather this information to allow us to provide you with information, products or services that you request from us or which we feel may interest you (where you have consented to be contacted for such purposes) and to enable us to contact you in the event of any queries. We also gather information to enable us to present features of the Website in the most effective manner for you, to personalise your use of the Website, and for security reasons. We may also use the information to communicate with you on any matter relating to the provision of The Legal Business service in general, however if the matter is not integral to the nature and operation of the Legal Business service or the Website, we will only do so where you have consent to be contacted.
On occasions we carry out surveys which may be for our own benefit or for more general interest. Participation in any survey is entirely optional. If you give us your consent to send marketing messages we may contact you from time-to-time with carefully selected offers and promotions from us or from our network from which you may always opt-out or unsubscribe. It is not our practice to contact you if you have made it clear that you do not wish to hear from us about our products and services.
We may also use your data, or permit selected third parties to use your data, to provide you with information about goods and services which may be of interest to you, where we permit selected third parties to use your data; we (or they) will contact you by electronic means only if you have consented to this. If you do not want us to use your data in this way, or to pass your details on to third parties for marketing purposes, please tick the relevant box situated on the form on which we collect your data (for example, the registration form). However, you expressly consent to the sharing of your Personal Data with those suppliers with whom we contract in order to provide services to you, otherwise we may not be able to provide the level of service that we know you’ll require. For example, from time to time we may provide your information to our customer service agencies for research and analysis purposes so that we can monitor and improve the services we provide. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that any third parties who do receive and handle such personal information are bound by the same obligations as us and do not use such information for any other purpose.
We may also use aggregate information and statistics for the purposes of monitoring Website usage in order to help us develop the Website and our service and may provide such aggregate information to third parties.
We may disclose any details as required by law or court order or in response to reasonable enquiries from law enforcement agencies.
We take precautions to ensure that any personal information which you provide is kept secure and used only for the purposes set out in this policy. However, the internet is not a completely secure medium and you acknowledge that we cannot guarantee that such information will not be intercepted by other parties and you acknowledge and agree that we shall not be responsible for unauthorised use, distribution, damage or destruction of personal data, except to the extent that we are required to accept such responsibility under the Data Protection Act 1998.
Unless required to do so by law, we will not release, rent or sell your personal information, other than as part of a sale of the whole or a substantial part of the assets of Legalease, without ensuring that suitable arrangements are in place to protect your privacy.
If you request to receive a newsletter: we shall use your personal information to send it to you by email. If at any time you wish to stop receiving it, please click on the link at the end of the newsletter. Your details will be removed from our database.
Updating Your Details
If any of the information that you have provided to Legalease changes (for example if you change your e-mail address) then please log in to the Website and update your profile.
Because the internet infrastructure is global, the information you provide may be transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”) that do not have similar data protection legislation during use as set out in this policy (for example, we may host the Website on servers located outside the EEA). However, we have taken the steps outlined above to try to improve the security of your information. Should we wish to transfer data for processing to a country outside the EEA we will ensure that suitable arrangements are in place to protect your privacy. By submitting your information you consent to these transfers.
