Channel 4’s Prash Naik is to leave the media company just over three years after his appointment as general counsel (GC). Naik (pictured) has been at Channel 4 for almost 23 years, starting as a legal and business affairs executive and taking on positions including senior lawyer and controller of legal and compliance before landing the role of GC in 2014.
He joined the company after just three years in private practice at now defunct firm DJ Freeman.
Naik has decided to move to Australia, leaving Channel 4 in August, and will continue to act for TV and film producers in London and Sydney.
Naik took up the role of GC as part of an overhaul that saw new roles introduced, including that of controller of business affairs which was filled by the BBC’s former head of legal commercial and business affairs John Moran. Naik took responsibility for the corporate legal team, working on corporate governance, data protection, freedom of information and regulatory issues. He also oversaw the legal and compliance department.
In recent in-house moves, last week it was revealed Addleshaw Goddard general counsel Simon Callander will leave the firm for a role as GC and company secretary at UK fashion retailer SuperGroup.
Callander first joined Addleshaws less than two years ago from Olswang, and has also previously held positions as interim UK GC at Equifax and head of business services at Towers Watson.
Meanwhile, last week it was confirmed that Emma Slatter, Deutsche Bank’s former head of strategy, has agreed to join Visa Europe as general counsel to replace Niamh Grogan.
In her new job at Visa, Slatter will report to New York-based executive vice president and general counsel Kelly Mahon Tullier and European chief executive Nicolas Huss.
