A job with a Vue: Cinema chain appoints new group general counsel

Multiplex cinema operator Vue Entertainment International has appointed Euan Sutton as group general counsel, replacing Anne Whalley who left in September 2014 after holding the position for over eleven years.

Sutton, who took up his role today, will be responsible for advising the group on risk management, M&A and large scale transactions. He will report into the group management board headed by chief executive Tim Richards.

He joins from TUI Travel where he was general counsel of aviation, hotels and emerging markets and brings M&A and joint venture experience. Prior to working at TUI, he was a senior legal advisor for First Class Holidays and also had roles at legacy Norton Rose and Macfarlanes.

Commenting on the appointment, Richards said: ‘As we look to continue our development through organic growth and strategic acquisitions, Euan will play a pivotal role in helping us achieve our ambitions to become one of the world’s leading global entertainment businesses.’

Sutton added: ‘I am genuinely excited to be joining such a respected and leading player in the cinema and entertainment industry. Vue Entertainment International is a company that has big plans and visions for the future and this is a great time to join the business.’

Vue International, which was formed in 2003, now operates over 1,727 screen across 187 multiplex cinemas in the UK, Europe, and Taiwan following the acquisition of the Apollo UK circuit in May 2012, the takeover of CinemaxX in August 2012 and the acquisition of Multikino in September 2013.
