‘Restructuring is very much a team sport,’ says Melissa Coakley on her first day as a partner at Sidley Austin in London. ‘You really need seasoned experts around you and Sidley is that kind of platform.’
Alongside Legal 500 Hall of Fame partner Philip Hertz, Coakley is half of the heavyweight restructuring duo Sidley hired from Clifford Chance at the end of March. With Hertz co-leading CC’s highly rated global restructuring practice and Coakley leading the firm’s London practice, their hires are the latest in a series of big-name lateral signings in the capital for the US firm. Hertz will be international lead for Sidley’s restructuring practice, which is led globally by Stephen Hessler in New York, while Coakley will lead the European team.
