‘People are our biggest asset’: Linklaters’ incoming Paris head Maigrot outlines strategy

Linklaters has elected its head of real estate in France, Françoise Maigrot, as its new managing partner in Paris. Taking over from banking, energy and infrastructure head Bertrand Andriani, Maigrot will begin her four-year term on 1 January 2023.

Speaking to Legal Business, Maigrot outlined her priorities on assuming the role: ‘One is having a Paris office that is really outward facing and growing at the top of the market, making sure we are taking advantage of all our strengths, including our cross-practice nature. There are very few firms based in Paris that have our breadth of expertise or our European network. ‘We want to be the biggest’: Hausfeld deepens European footprint with new Paris office

US litigation specialist Hausfeld has added to its considerable strength on the continent with the opening of a new Paris office.

The new outpost will be Hausfeld’s fifth in Europe and tenth worldwide. French antitrust partner Laurent Geelhand will lead the Paris office supported by a team of seven French-speaking lawyers who will divide their time between London and Paris. Ashurst loses second Paris team this year as four partners quit for Gibson Dunn

In a second blow to Ashurst’s Paris office this year, the firm last month lost a four-partner team to Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, led by litigation and restructuring partner Jean-Pierre Farges.

Tasked with launching a new French litigation and finance practice at the US firm in Paris, Farges is joined by fellow disputes partners Pierre-Emmanuel Fender and Eric Bouffard, corporate partner Bertrand Delaunay and finance counsel Amanda Bevan, who will be made up to partner in the move.

Gibson deals body blow to Ashurst’s European business as four-partner Paris team quits

Ashurst’s hopes of stabilising its European practice have been dealt a body blow with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher today (8 June) recruiting a four-partner team from its Paris arm. The move – which comes just months after a five-partner corporate team quit Ashurst’s Paris outpost for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer  – sees a team led by litigation and restructuring partner Jean-Pierre Farges decamp to the US-based giant.

BLP scales back Paris office just eight years after opening as local head departs

Clifford Chance boosts French corporate offering with HSF and Willkie Farr hires

Last month saw much strategic decision-making by Legal Business 100 firms located in Paris, with Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) scaling back its offering in the French capital and leaving only a liaison outpost following the departure of French head Antoine-Audoin Maggiar, just eight years after opening. Meanwhile, Magic Circle firm Clifford Chance (CC) has made efforts to boost its Paris offering, having hired longstanding Herbert Smith Freehills’ (HSF) securities partner Alex Bafi and Willkie Farr & Gallagher private equity partner Fabrice Cohen.

Nabarro seeks new French alliance partner after August & Debouzy quits network
