Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative manifesto pledge to incorporate the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) into the National Crime Agency (NCA) was absent from the Queen’s Speech yesterday (21 June 2017), with lawyers welcoming the prospect it could be shelved.
Addleshaw Goddard, Ashurst, DLA Piper and Eversheds Sutherland have all been appointed to tier one of the Department for Transport’s (DfT’s) first £50m rail panel.
The number of female practice certificate (PC) holders increased yet again by 3% to 67,393 from 65,147 as at July 2016, yet number of female partners remained relatively stagnant increasing only by seven to 8,105, according to the latest Annual Statistics Report from the Law Society, a trend echoing last year’s report.

The Queen’s Speech today (21 June) has largely confirmed the prime ministers’ focus on Brexit, with new national legislation and reforms to the domestic legal framework, although the list of bills will remain a ‘moving target’.
DWF is set to break into Asia for the first time by opening a Singapore office, picking up a four-lawyer team which left Eversheds Sutherland in the city earlier this month, to expand on DWF’s growing regional client base.

Taylor Wessing has posted a modest 1.8% increase in its UK revenue to £128.9m in 2016/2017, in contrast to a 4.4% rise the previous year. It was brighter news, however, for the firm’s global revenues which rose 6% to £269.8m, up from £254.5m in 2015.
Bristol-based LB100 firm TLT’s revenue rose 4% to £74.6m for the 2016/17 financial year, marking its fifth consecutive year of revenue growth.

City white-collar crime specialists have been drafted in as the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) today (20 June) charged Barclays and four former executives with conspiracy to commit fraud, false representation and unlawful financial assistance in arranging a £7.3bn Qatar funding deal at the height of the financial crisis – the first such prosecution of a bank.
Stephenson Harwood has posted another year of growth with revenues up 11% to £176m. The firm, however, saw a drop of 9% in its profits per equity partner (PEP), the number dipping to £708,000, partly due to the effect of the Brexit vote last June.
