Weil has hired a partner into its Frankfurt office, as the firm continues to build its German benches.
David Jansen joins the firm from Willkie Farr & Gallagher, where he has been a partner for the last four years, joining in 2022 from Freshfields, where he was a counsel.
He joins Weil’s German PE practice, and brings experience advising a range of clients including banks, asset managers, and financial sponsors on regulatory matters, as well as on M&A transactions in the financial sector, and on the structuring, formation, and distribution of funds.
Of his move, Jansen said: ‘Hardly any firm in the German private equity market is developing as dynamically as Weil right now, and that’s exactly why I wanted to be part of this development.’
Jansen is the eleventh partner this year to join the firm in Germany, where Weil has two offices across Frankfurt and Munich.
Most recently, it hired PE focused M&A partner Olga Stürmer from Freshfields in Frankfurt.
The firm also hired co-managing partner of its German offices and co-head of its German PE practice Sebastian Pauls from Latham & Watkins.
Pauls said of the latest hire: ‘Our clients are increasingly investing in regulated companies and asset managers, and fund structures are becoming ever more demanding from a regulatory standpoint. The fact that David is also one of the leading practitioners in the use of legal AI fits perfectly with the direction Weil has taken.’
Earlier this year, Weil also hired the former co-managing partner of Willkie’s German offices, Kamyar Abrar, who now co-leads the German PE practice alongside Pauls.
Jansen’s hire comes amid a string of exits for Weil, which has seen more than 30 partners depart in recent weeks, primarily from its New York headquarters and its London office.
These include the firm’s PE co-head Christopher Machera, who moved to Paul Weiss in New York.
