Cleary Gottlieb and Quinn Emanuel have advised private equity giant KKR on a record $250m settlement with the US Department of Justice (DOJ) over violations of federal antitrust rules.

The civil penalty is the largest ever imposed under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Act – which governs how acquirers must notify regulators before closing certain types of merger – and more than 20 times the previous record.
