In the latest series of lateral appointments across the UK’s leading firms, Squire Sanders has hired former Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) director of China business as a partner in its global corporate practice, as Olswang welcomes former Gateley contentious insolvency partner Louise Bell, Irwin Mitchell hires restructuring and insolvency specialist Edward Judge, and DAC Beachcroft brings in Eversheds’ former head of procurement in Newcastle, Ruth Connorton.

Nabarro bolsters City disputes capability with DLA IT litigation head hire

Top 30 LB100 firm Nabarro has bolstered its City disputes capability with the addition of DLA Piper’s IT litigation head Lee Gluyas.

Gluyas specialises in both commercial litigation and arbitration in complex IT disputes. Having acted for and against technology companies, the 424-lawyer firm said his appointment is part of a strategic move to build on its existing presence in the sector. Fresh from its run of lateral hires from Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) in London, Jones Day has made two prominent European partner hires, as Clifford Chance’s (CC) Frankfurt-based automotive head Johannes Perlitt joins the firm’s corporate practice while the head of EU product regulatory practice at McKenna Long & Aldridge in Brussels, Ursula Schliessner has also joined the firm as a partner. A&O bolsters corporate practice as PE star follows Lloyd from Ashurst

He was singled out as one of Ashurst’s rainmakers of the future but private equity specialist Karan Dinamani has become the second high-profile corporate exit to Allen & Overy (A&O) in six months.

Dinamani (pictured) joins Ashurst’s former global head of corporate, commercial and competition Stephen Lloyd, who resigned within weeks of the firm fully integrating with Australian partner Blake Dawson and post-merger management elections. Orrick duo join DLA Piper to bolster financial regulatory team

DLA Piper has bolstered its London financial regulatory capability with the appointment of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe duo Tony Katz and Sam Millar.

Prior to joining the litigation team at Orrick in October 2011, both Katz and Millar, who join DLA today (5 March), worked at financial derivatives trading company Liquid Capital Group, where Katz held the position of group head of compliance and legal adviser, and Millar was general counsel. And so the tally rises, Jones Day hires fourth BLP partner since August

Fresh from the news on Friday (28 February) that DLA Piper has hired three Berwin Leighton Paisner partners, Jones Day has added to its own tally of laterals from the firm by recruiting banking and capital markets partner Paul Simcock.

Good things come in threes…or fours: DLA Piper secures triple lateral hire from BLP

Following the announcement last September that Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) corporate partner Patrick Somers had joined DLA Piper, the top five Global 100 firm today (28 February) confirmed it has secured a further three lateral hires, including head of real estate finance Laurence Rogers.

Hogan Lovells eyes growth in South Africa with hire of Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs partner as banking head

Transatlantic giant Hogan Lovells has made its first lateral hire in South Africa since merging last December with Routledge Modise, taking on finance partner Anina Boshoff from leading local firm Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs (ENS) to head up its banking and finance department in Johannesburg.

Boshoff (pictured), who returned to South Africa early in 2010 after working in the Singapore office of Allen & Overy for three years, will begin her new role on 1 March, and will be joined by ENS associates Candice Morgan and Sanrie van Tonder. Asia calling: Bird & Bird launches in South Korea as Taylor Wessing and Allen & Gledhill expand Asia footprint

Bird & Bird has joined a host of international law firms looking to enhance their global footprint with a cooperation agreement in Asia’s fourth largest economy, tying up with South Korean firm Hwang Mok Park (HMP).

Announced today (25 February), the top 20 firm said the aim is to focus on helping clients in industry sectors where technology and regulation are driving change.

Founded in 1993, HMP is acknowledged by the Legal 500 as third-tier in antitrust and competition, banking and finance, corporate and M&A, disputes, employment, and insurance.
