JP MORGAN TURNS TO GOLDMAN SACHS FOR NEW EMEA GC

JP Morgan Chase hired heavyweight counsel, and former lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, John Tribolati from Goldman Sachs to succeed Piers Le Marchant as EMEA general counsel. Le Marchant is remaining with the banking giant as global head of compliance for corporate and investment banking.

 

SLATER & GORDON ACQUIRES TWO UK LAW FIRMS

The Australian-listed Slater & Gordon continued to build its UK offering with the acquisition of North-West personal injury firm Walker Smith Way and Cardiff’s Leo Abse & Cohen Solicitors. The firm spent £18.7m on the purchases and revealed it is targeting 45% of total revenues for the 2014/15 financial year to come from the UK.

 

NRF AND EVERSHEDS MAKE NEW AFRICAN ALLIANCES

Norton Rose Fulbright expanded its presence in Africa, teaming up with Ugandan firm Shonubi, Musoke & Co Advocates and Zimbabwean firm Gill, Godlonton & Gerrans. Meanwhile, Eversheds expanded its South African presence, allying with Cape Town firm Walkers.

 

OLSWANG HIRES IP TEAM FROM WINSTON & STRAWN

Winston & Strawn lost four members of its IP practice in the City with Richard Price joining Olswang as head of IP arbitration alongside IP partner Gareth Morgan and two associates. The partner duo were brought on board by the US firm in 2011 to help spearhead its launch of an IP practice in the UK.
