Fieldfisher continues European push with Luxembourg and Frankfurt offices

Legal Business 100 pacesetter Fieldfisher has further extended its European reach with the opening of a new office in Luxembourg, which will be managed by country managing partner Ingrid Dubourdieu who joins from local firm D.Law.

Initially focusing on finance and funds work, the London-headquartered firm expects the office to grow into corporate M&A and international tax, and will complement existing offices in Brussels and Amsterdam.

The news follows the launch of a Frankfurt office for the firm in April, which brought the hire of Norton Rose Fulbright finance partner Rüdiger Litten. The firm’s funds practice is set to expand into the new Frankfurt office, meaning it will cover four key jurisdictions across London, Paris, Luxembourg and Frankfurt.

‘The strategy is to have a considerable presence in the major financial centres of Europe.’

The moves reflect a continued commitment to European expansion for Fieldfisher, which is also expected to open in Barcelona and Madrid in the coming months.

‘The strategy is to have a considerable presence in the major financial centres of Europe,’ Dubourdieu told Legal Business. Currently the only partner in Luxembourg, Dubourdieu has a track record in advising domestic and international financial institutions on local legal, regulatory and compliance issues, as well as experience of acting for EU and non-EU asset managers. However she is to be further supported through new arrivals to the office, with two partner hires lined up over the coming months in M&A and tax respectively.

Fieldfisher can expect domestic competitor Eversheds Sutherland to compete with its new Luxembourg offering, after opening an office there in September 2017. ‘Eversheds is obviously a competitor in the UK and will be in Luxembourg also. We want to be in the top ten firms in the city,’ Dubourdieu added.

The new office takes Fieldfisher’s global tally up to 20, spread across nine different markets.
