Deal watch: Corporate activity in October 2016

CC and Davis Polk On $8bn China IPO: Davis Polk & Wardwell advised Postal Savings Bank of China on its Hong Kong Stock Exchange float, with Clifford Chance leading for the underwriting banks, including JP Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs. King & Wood Mallesons acted as Chinese counsel to the banks, while Haiwen & Partners was Chinese adviser to Postal Savings Bank.

Slaughters defends SVG hostile bid: Slaughter and May advised UK private equity house SVG Capital on defending a £1bn hostile takeover attempt by Boston-based HarbourVest Partners. Debevoise & Plimpton’s long-term client HarbourVest made a full cash offer, offering 650p per share. The bid was rejected on 16 September, while shares in SVG jumped to 679p.

Global elite line up on Informa deal: Clifford Chance advised FTSE 100 publishing company Informa on its $1.56bn bid for US trade magazine publisher Penton, with the deal expected to close before the end of 2016. Kirkland & Ellis acted for Penton and co-owner MidOcean Partners on the sale, while Jones Day advised co-owner Wasserstein & Co.
