Insights on diversity and inclusion

On 28th June, GC Magazine and The Legal 500, along with Paul Hastings hosted a debate on the global implications of diversity and inclusion, particularly for companies who operate in both the US and Europe. It was also a chance to raise some of the key issues and ideas outlined in the successful report on the subject by GC Magazine, which Paul Hastings also supported.

Speaking on our panel were representatives from three of the companies featured in that report: Joanne Averiss from PepsiCo, Alison Gaskins from Barclays and Rosemary Martin from Vodafone.

The panel also featured contributions from Yana Valletta from Global Fashion Group, who brought the perspective of a smaller startup company. Seth Zachery, Chairman, Paul Hastings was also part of the panel and brought the law firm perspective to the debate. The evening was moderated by Catherine McGregor, Publishing Director at GC Magazine and The Legal 500 (In House).

The panel discussed:

  • How the strategic imperative for diversity and inclusion can be best communicated both upwards and downwards in organizations.
  • How to ensure you take a global perspective on diversity and inclusion
  • How to progress diverse candidates in a meaningful way.
  • Using the power of the client effectively in regards to diversity and inclusion.

Finally, it’s often the small steps that can make the biggest difference, the discussion closed with the panelists sharing one practical idea that everyone could implement.

The discussion and questions from the audience was highly engaged and the evening concluded with drinks and networking during which the delegates continued this important topic of conversation.
