By Chris Johnson![]() The career of Lanny Davis, a Washington, DC-based disputes partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, has been anything but ordinary. As a law student at Yale in the late ’60s, Davis developed close friendships with a number of individuals who would go on to become some of the world’s most prominent political figures, including George W Bush, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton. His particularly close relationship with Hillary Clinton, whom he has now known for over 30 years, would see him serve as White House Counsel during the presidency of her husband, Bill Clinton. Those 14 months proved to be some of the most turbulent in the history of US politics, and would inspire Davis to establish what remains a unique practice in the world of law. It seems almost inevitable that Davis would end up involved in politics. He was born into a new world, just three months after the last shots of the Second World War were fired, and his father, a New Jersey dentist, was a staunch Democrat and an ardent supporter of former President Franklin D Roosevelt and Maine politician Edmund Muskie.
